COVID-19 has turned the world on its head. Everyday routines and lives have been rearranged as means to keep people safe and healthy. This has been especially true for everyone at Community Living Cambridge. Schedule changes, program closures, limited social interactions, cancelled events, and postponed visits with loved-ones has been tough on everyone.
However, during these uncertain times, the staff at Community Living Cambridge has been nothing short of amazing! It has been a joy to see how staff in the homes have gone above and beyond to make the best of these unique circumstances. Just a few examples include, staff leaving messages of hope and encouragement on sidewalks and driveways, hosting themed dinner parties, elaborate drive-by birthday celebrations, as well as making and delivering cards and crafts to let others know they are cared for.
The creativity of the staff has been remarkable. One home turned its living room into a hockey arena complete with an ice surface, fans in the stands, advertisements along the boards, dressing rooms and even a coaches corner. Other homes have been busy with spa days, starting and tending to their gardens, learning new recipes and cooking together, going to the salon, and hosting talent shows. The pinnacle demonstration of caring was the outpouring of love for the Elmira Community Living residents who lost their home in a fire earlier this month. More than 20 CLC vehicles, covered in messages of hope and support and filled with gifts, paraded through downtown Elmira to show their support to our friends.
We are all in this together! Everyone has gone above and beyond to keep themselves and those we support safe during this time. We see and appreciate all that everyone is doing to help us get through this, and we are so very grateful. Thank you.
We look forward to the days when we are all together again!
