What is a Self-Advocate?

A self-advocate is someone that; speaks-up for things they believe, understands or wants to understand what it means to have rights,  wants to learn how to make decisions that affect their life, and wants to improve the way things are done.

How do I become a self-advocate?

  1. Believe in yourself
  2. Know your rights
  3. Decide what you want
  4. Get information you need
  5. Create a plan
  6. Get support
  7. Have a goal
  8. Express yourself
  9. Ask for what you need and want
  10. Be firm and persistent
