A welcome addition to the group home family
There are four ladies who now call Fairview Avenue home. They are fortunate to be the first residents of our newest group home. The ladies formerly lived together at the Wauchope Avenue group home. They moved together as a family on December 11, 2019, just in time for Christmas. Everyone had the opportunity to choose their room, and add their own personal touches to make it feel like home.
The Fairview Avenue home was purchased in 2019, quite serendipitously. The real estate agent mixed up the address, so our team ended up standing in front of this beautiful new home by accident. But it was meant to be, and this home is absolutely perfect for our ladies. It is walker and wheelchair accessible, it has been remodelled with a large open concept kitchen and an ample sized main floor bathroom with a walk in shower and double vanities. All four ladies enjoy a good size bedroom with lots of natural light and lots of closet space. The home also features a fully finished basement, so the ladies are looking forward to getting a new roommate in the future.
Each of the ladies has their own television in their bedroom, but there is also one in the family room where they can spend time together watching their favourite shows. However, during my visits I quickly realized, the kitchen table seems to be were all the action happens. The ladies like to gather around the table chatting about their day or sharing stories with each other. I asked if they all get along, they admitted that sometimes they fight with each other like roommates do, but at the end of the day they are the best of friends.
They admit they are still settling in, getting organized with the new space and adding the soft touches that make a house a home. Everyone is happy with having more space all on one level, and in a good central location. Once the warmer weather finally arrives, I am sure they will enjoy sitting around the table outside in their big beautiful backyard almost as much as they do now around the kitchen table. Maybe even more.
