Melanie Robertson was born and raised in Cambridge. In 2013, while looking for somewhere to volunteer, she contacted Community Living Cambridge. She has been volunteering with the Agency ever since.
Giving of your time on a regular consistent basis takes commitment and dedication. Melanie has just that. She volunteers once a week and has done so for six years, juggling working, meeting the needs of her family, and her commitment to volunteering. Over the years she has assisted with evening recreation programs, our Volunteers for Volunteers program, and most recently, helped with various arts and crafts programs at Franklin Centre. She enjoys the effort it takes to help others. When asked why she volunteers with CLC, she says “No matter what mood you’re in when you walk in the door, you will come out smiling.”
Developmental disabilities were familiar to Melanie, as she grew up with her cousin, Debbie, who attends Franklin Centre, making her not just a friend of CLC, but also family.
Melanie has a compassionate heart and this shows when she speaks of her time at Franklin Centre, she says, “I just love the people, and I love the smiles.” She passed her empathetic heart on to her daughter, who lives in Kitchener and choose a career in social services, working with autistic children.
Volunteers are worth their weight in gold. They are an integral part of programs at CLC. It is the selfless giving of themselves for the benefit of others that touches the lives of so many of our participants. Melanie is a valuable volunteer to us and we would like to thank her for her kindness that she gives so readily.
